The Ashby Canal

stellaashbycanal

The lovely Ashby Canal winds quietly from the junction with the Coventry Canal, up to Snarestone.

Avoiding towns along the way the canal is rural, relaxing and lock free, ideal for the first time boater.

Highlights are the Bosworth Battlefield Centre Bosworth Battlefield Centre at Shenton, alongside of which is the restored steam train.

The Lime Kilns, (by bridge15) has a pleasant beer garden, with hilltop villages such as Stoke Golding and Dadlington make the walks worthwhile.

Market Bosworth is a decent mile from the canal wharf by bridge 42, a truly delightful town.

A very good run down on the Ashby Canal is right here.

Video active have recently updated its range. Check out the Coventry and Ashby DVD, available here.

And Wikepedia has a good map and guide here. To find out more about tthis lovely canal, its history and restoration, visit the

Ashby Canal Association.

The Pearsons Canal Companion is, as usual, a thorough and entrtaining guide to the canal.
