How's your collection of Narrowboat DVDs and video's
It is said a picture is worth a thousand words.
If this is so, then a mooving picture is worth a million words!
Watching one of the narrowboat DVD's and Video’s available is a great way of seeing what a canal can be like.
They take you through the highlights of the canal, or river, showing you what is in store for you, and what to look out for.
They show you the towns and villages along each canal, pubs, famous buildings, castles and anything else of interest.
They even talk to some of the locals along the way.
And when you return from your holiday afloat, whip out one of your canal DVD's and video'si, and remember your trip!
We have a great selection of canal DVD’s and Video’s, and we play them all regularly.
Two companies produce theCanal DVD’s and Video’s, Waterways World, and Video Actve
Video Active have the largest range of narrowboat dvds available, all in DVD format. Some are getting a bit old now, having been filmed some years ago. It is interesting looking at some of those filmed a while ago, you notice more hire boats than owned boats compared with today .
Video Active cover most of the popular canals and rivers at a reasonable cost.

The DVD on the LLangollen is a good example of what they do, and is one of the best narrowboat DVDs,and an ideal one to to start off with, if you are still thinking about you first trip
A well put together commentary, fab vision, the DVD covers the canal form the Cheshire Plains right to Llangollen.
You will see Ellesmere, Whitchurch, and of course there is great vision of the two aqueducts.
An excellent narrowboat DVD, one of our favourites and highly reccomended.

Video Easy have a range of narrowboat DVDs to cover just about any other canal or river you might be interested in.
They include the Coventry, Grand Union, Grand Union Leicester Section, (Grand Union also available in 3 disc set) the Kennett and Avon, the Lancaster, Leeds and Liverpool, Montgomery, Oxford, Staff and Worcester, the mighty Shroppie and of course the Stratford and Avon.
With Waterways World, they seem to be heading the same way that their guides did some years ago!
When I last looked, only the Llangollen remained, as a video.
But this is well worth having, the first canal video we ever bought.
It follows the traditional narrow boat Justice along the Llangollen, as it visits the towns and villages along the way.
Probably the best Llangollen guide around, this video is highly reccomended.
Whether they re enter the market, as they did with their guides, remains to be seen.
Laurence Hogg, also have a range of narrowboat DVD's and videos
We have never seen any of them, but quite a few of our canal companions speak very highly off them.
An interesting feature of these productions is they use archive footage, and old photographs to highlight the history and tradition of the canals.
Canals covered are the Birmingham Canal Network, a good DVD on the narrow boats of Birmingham, and a couple on the Walsall Canal.
All of these are available
here.

I also was fortunate enough to have someone send me a copy of the on Britain's Waterways series. This series enquires why more people than ever are turning their back on the traditional ways of living and holidaying to indulge their passion for a graceful and relaxing way of life. With remarkable similarities to the grey nomads of this country the quality of life on offer from travelling and meeting new people at a leisurely pace while exploring the serene and beautiful surrounding countryside proves irresistible to a growing number of people. Drawing on the success and popularity of steam train and English landscapes DVD product comes this fascinating 6 DVD set covering all aspects of living and travelling on the 3000kms of canals and waterways around Britain. I enjoyed the series, and I think you will to.
